Tradition/Everest releases

Introduction

As stated on other pages, Patrick Clancy, with the assistance of brothers Tom and Liam and the financial support of Diane Hamilton, a member of the Guggenheim family, initiated Tradition Records in 1956 in New York City. The Clancys sold the company to Bernard Solomon at Everest Records in 1966.

Most of the original Tradition LPs were reissued by Tradition/Everest records, with the original covers, sleeve notes and "TLP" catalog numbers. The only noticeable differences being the labels and addition of the statement "An Everest Records Production" on the back sleeve.

I cannot verify that all of the original (TLP) LPs have been reissued in any form. There are a few of these albums that I have never seen …

Everest also reissued some of the original LPs with different covers and titles — with different catalog numbers, 4 digits all beginning "2" and the prefix "TR".

To muddy the waters, Everest started releasing other LPs, in approximately 1967, on the Tradition/Everest label that were not original Tradition recordings (from the Clancy owned era). To my knowledge, none of these records were actually produced by Everest, but are previously released material, licensed from other labels.

One exception is Songs of the West by Ed McCurdy, as I can not find another vinyl release of these songs.

Dating these releases is a bit of a challenge. I do believe the "Best of" series was released in 1967. Other than that, I have found much conflicting information, and can not accurately date the bulk of these LPs.

Below is chronological list, based on catalog numbers, of all the Tradition/Everest albums, of which I am aware.
